Potholes, early landscaping, and death row

Well, the snow is starting to melt. When the snow melts in Utah, everyone goes about their business and life goes on. Not in Pennsylvania. We will start with the potholes. We are not used to potholes because we rarely get this much snow. They are so rare that the traffic reporter was warning drivers of the potholes. He even had them pinpointed on his little traffic map with the accidents and downed trees. (Yes, lots of downed trees out here because the ground is SOO wet and the trees are old and tall and heavy and the roots just don't want to stay in the ground anymore.) Back to the potholes.....The little graphic shows the potholes to avoid and the detours you can take around them. Incredible. Utah obviously can't do that or you wouldn't see the map.
Let's see...early landscaping. We live in a rural area. (Not many cement curbs.) When there is a couple of feet of snow on the ground, the plow drivers can't tell if they are pushing snow or your slightly elevated flowerbed next to the road. Many of us are finding out that our bulbs are coming up on top of snowmounds. I am sure that a ton of earth was moved for every 2 tons of snow. It will be very interesting to see the landscaping job these guys did when all the snow melts.
Death row. So sad. I was driving down Telegraph road the other day in Maryland. It has been 14 years since the last major snowfall here. Many of the plowdrivers have retired and the new drivers don't have a clue what this road must look like without snow. (And then if the old drivers are still working, they must have forgotten.) Well, every house is supposed to have a mailbox by the road. They don't have them anymore.
