St. Louis revisited

We stayed in St. Louis with Bob and Deanne Johnson.  Deanne used to be married to Charlie's brother.  She is remarried to the sweetest guy in the whole world!  After church on Sunday, Bob drove us around.  This is at the farm where the Clydesdale hoses are kept.  You can't get any closer than this.  Bummer.  Squint your eyes and you can see them in the background.

We returned to St. Louis after spending Christmas in Nauvoo for a couple more days with the Johnsons.  On Friday, the 28th, we went downtown to see the Gateway Arch.  This is a perspective shot.  We are underneath said arch and would soon climb the 630 feet to the top and stand in that skinny piece above Charlie's head!

This is what the arch looked like when we lived in Florissant.  We moved before it was completed.  Dad said he would fly over it everyday to see how it was coming along.  I was always afraid that when they got both sides done, they wouldn't match in the middle.

View from up top looking west.  We stood on the steps of the domed building to get the picture of the arch in the background. (Picture down below.)

Looking east over the Mississippi River into Illinois.

Bush stadium!!  We saw many games played by the Cardinals in this spot.  They actually built the new stadium around the outside of the old one.  After the last season was over in the old stadium, the new one was already in place.  They quickly tore down the old one and finished off the new one in time for the next season.

At the top. 630 feet.  These are the squinty windows we looked out.  Charlie never looked out.  He was just glad he got to the top at all.

This is how you get up top.  5 people round pods that are pulleyed up on wheels.  If you are claustrophobic, I wouldn't advise the ride.

At the base.

On the steps of the domed building.

Just like Disneyland!  They take your picture before the ride and have it ready for you when you get down.  I was pretty happy because it is the only picture we got of all 4 of us.  We had such a great time with Deanne and Bob.  They are coming out here next time.  Bob wants to see Gettysburg and I have to beat him at dominoes.
