Lest me forgets

Gotta get these things down before the moment is gone.
So tonight I sang in the stake choir for the Saturday evening adult session of conference.  Last year at this same time I was in Delaware speaking at our stake conference. But that has nothing to do with tonight.  I just remembered as a side thought.
This choir was different than any stake choir I have ever been in.  There are usually many more women than men.  There are usually a number of younger adults.  The director is usually begging everyone to stagger their breathing so there is no collective breath between phrases.  And then there was tonight.
No surprise here that the average age of the choir has got to be 60 or older.  Our stake includes a number of senior housing developments. (And I ain't no spring chicken.  I just feel like it here in St. George.)  There were soooo many men. Two men for every woman.  And they were mostly manly basses.  Men think they have to sing bass to be manly.  Three men sang tenor.
The breathing thing?  I guess old people don't have enough air to get through a phrase so everybody just up and breathed every few words, the director included.  He didn't seem to notice or care that we were breathing so much.  I guess as long as we were hitting the notes and getting the words right it was okay.
A word about the director...besides old.  He arranged all 3 numbers.  They were all hymns and lovely but...two fingered accompianment in the introduction just doesn't cut it.  It makes the accompianist feel, well, like "I can play a lot more notes than this.  I have 10 fingers!"
But you won't hear me complaining or they just might make me stake music chairman!
