Indexing....Fascinating!
I know this is back in 1930.....school records in Oklahoma....interesting that they numbered the deaf and dumb, blind, feeble minded, colored boys and girls, white boys and girls, indians, and Freedmen! I noticed the freedmen because I have been indexing the Freedmen records. Obviously the blacks were counted separately from the former slaves! This is 1930 for crying out loud!
While I am here....just catching up on interesting names from the early 1900's.
Twins : Paul and Pauline
Alen and Alene
Bennie and Minnie
Ernest and Erdice
Brother and sister : Wetia and Clethbert
Argus and Granvil are brothers with the last name of Dempsey. I'll bet Dad named them.
Another one named by the dad - Bullett
Loyse is a girl and Gussie is a boy.
Solu Muly Carpenter - Polynesian?
Eula Trible
Onda Gott
Nittir Goen
I can't say for sure these were their real names. After all, the enumerator probably asks the kids their names and then he/she phonetically writes it down. I have seen where the enumerator writes down the parent's name and then when the parent signs it the spelling is VERY different.
I wonder what the people of the early 1900's would think of some of the names today?
And I got these off a legitimate website of popular baby names!
Xandra or Xander
Zahara or Zuri
Mason or Maddox
Jax or Jayden
Harper or Haven
Marlowe or Axel
And then there is Michael Jackson's "Blanket" and Gwenyth Paltrow's "Apple." They would positively think our generation had totally flipped out!!
