Tied up memories

I found this quilt top after Mom died.  It was made by Laura Jost, a dear friend of Mom's from St. Louis days.  Laura even named her daughter Glenona.  Mom had taken care of Laura and her son David during the very difficult pregnancy.  Laura and David stayed with us the last few weeks as Laura was on total bedrest.  Brother Jost would come by each night to see his little family.  David was Jana's age. (Hence the true story that Jana and David were playing by the laundry chute;  Jana got in laundry chute;  Mom could hear Laura calling her from the bedroom;  Mom comes around the corner to find David hanging onto Jana's head,  her body dangling down the chute.  Mom lowers Jana by her arms as far down as the arms would allow because Jana was not coming out the way she went in. Mom lets go and runs like a mad woman down the basement steps to find Jana sitting on a pile of sheets.  Jana looked at her and asked why she didn't catch her.  I am thinking Jana and David were about 3 years old.)  Anyway...to show her gratitude, Laura asked Mom for any fabric scraps she had and fashioned the butterfly quilt top.  I finally got around to tying it up into a quilt.  I remember so many of the clothes that Mom made for us from these little pieces of butterfly wings.  I was able to find a few pictures of those clothes.
Joy's dress, with matching jacket, was made from the blue houndstooth fabric.  This is the picture taken by a news photographer at Uncle Don's graduation from medical school in Toronto, Canada in 1961.   Caption - "A Doc and His Flock" appeared with it in the newspaper. The 6 Farnsworth sibs with their 4 cousins.
My second grade picture.  Yes, purple has always been my favorite color.
This was probably my all-time favorite Easter dress.  I am wearing a sweater here so you can't see the little jacket top connected to the dress.  Mom made the contrasting bodice underlay out of a soft lavender. Don't remember what was made from the turqouise gingham.
Just sayin'.
