Can you believe we live in Pennsylvania?

Every now and then, Charlie and I look at each other and say, "Can you believe we live in Pennsylvania?" Last night we had another of those moments. We went to a horse show. Now, remember, we lived forever in Utah and that meant a rodeo. We went to our fair share of those while living in Price. Charlie was even the rodeo chairman one year. Yvonne was visiting us that weekend (when she was single) and even got to be the "beautiful girl" who pulled the winning tickets from the hat. She was in the announcer's booth that was just above the gates where the cowboys got on the horses and bulls before being thrown in the arena. (But then, that is her story and she should SO get a blog and fill us in.) I digress....

We went to a Pennsylvania horseshow last night with one of the doctors from Jennersville who had horses that compete. We even had to dress up!

There were "shops" around the outside of the arena. Not your usual shops. There were shops that sold riding outfits, boots, wine, cheese, sweets (Not candy), etc. People were strutting around with their well-behaved dogs on leashes. There were the occasional fru-fru hats on ladies.

This was a qualifying event for the Dressage events in the Olympics. I didn't even know what that was until last night. It was pretty sweet. The horses and their riders actually dance to music!! They have certain elements they must do (just like ice skating). They are scored on technical elements and presentation. There are 5 judges and they throw the high and low score out. By the end of the evening I was getting pretty good at knowing what to look for. (Much coaching from the good doctor.) And YES! Horses can actually keep on beat with the music. It was a pretty great night. Can you believe we live in Pennsylvania?

Ok, we really need to come visit you sometime. There is too much to see and experience there. I am glad you are having a great time in a great place. Did you get to wear a fru-fru hat too? I've always wanted an excuse to do that and not feel wierd wearing it.
