50 years in the making

Waaaaay back in 1958 (I think), my Dad went to Japan on business with his Navy job. We were living in Chula Vista, CA at the time. It was like Chritmas when he returned. He brought back gifts for each of us. I have no recollection of what he brought Brad. For the older girls, he brought back parasols, ivory fans, and porcelain dolls. I still have mine. (See picture.)
For my Mother, he brought back more than enough silk to make herself a beautiful dress.
Back in December, when I was with my Dad going through my Mother's cedar chest, we found some silk material. It was the left over 'more than enough' silk from Japan. So what do you do with left over silk? Make a dress! I wore it to church today. It took over 50 years to make this dress. Thanks Dad for giving me more material. He made a promise to me when I was in Junior High (As he did with all my sisters) that if we learned to sew, he would buy us as much material as we could sew. 50 plus years later and he is still keeping that promise. I love you Dad!!
It was so much fun to go to church today. Not becasue I got to wear my dress, but becasue I am the new Sunbeam teacher!! Talk about fun!! We color, play matching games, sing, do finger plays, bending and stretching, and have snacks. Today was a lesson on birds and insects. Jesus made them for us. He sent the ravens to help feed Elijah. He sent the seagulls to eat those pesky crickets that were eating all the wheat. After class we get to go to sharing time and singing time. I think I just made it to Heaven.

I would LOVE for you to be Sophie's Sunbeam teacher. Love the dress, and love the story behind the fabric, too. Your cards are on their way. :)
