It's Great to be Eight!

On May 29th Miles turned eight.  Most kids get baptized when they turn eight.  Matt baptized Zoe when she turned eight.  Miles will not be baptized.  Why should he be?  He is perfect in Heavenly Father's eyes and has a special place with Him in the next life.  Eight is still a special birthday so Matt and Stephanie planned something special for him.
Both sets of grandparents were invited to the stake baptism.  Charlie and I flew out of Vegas on Thursday.  On Friday, Charlie headed for the Johnson's house to get an early start on rebuilding their downstair's shower.  Steph and the kids met me at our hotel smack dab next door to an IHOP.  We had brunch and then the kids went swimming in the hotel pool. Tender mercy that our server at IHOP has a little boy in Mile's class.  She and Steph exchanged phone numbers.  I know Stephanie will be an amazing support for her.

Back at the house, Matt had come home from work early to help Charlie with the shower.  Zoe had a workshop  with the High school pom squad for a fundraiser so Steph and I dropped her off at the high school and went downtown quaint Castle Rock.
Neat fire station but the Emporium and the Barn were way cooler!  Antiques and stuff everywhere. I can't wait to go back with a car (or truck), show Charlie all the cool stuff and bring some home.
We then went back to the high school to see Zoe perform her routine with the high school squad and the other girls that attended the workshop.  Steph will be the assistant advisor to the squad this year and make all their uniforms.  We stopped to get a Papa Mauprhy's pizza on the way home. Now I know that Zoe doesn't like 'things' on her pizza but she can just take them off.  As she was prying them off the cheese she said, "Are these vegetables ENGRAVED in this pizza?"  There was a slight moment of panic when Charlie, who had gone back to the hotel to shower and change after a hard work day , called to say he couldn't find his Ipad.  He couldn't find it anywhere in the rental car and assumed that Miles, who had been sitting in the car, had taken it out.  We combed the house with a fine tooth comb (even the garbage cans and oven) and came up empty.  When Charlie got back, Stephanie asked him if he had looked again in the car.  He assured her he had.  Stephanie asked if she could look.  He said he would give her $100 if she found it.  She wasn't gone 20 seconds when she came back in the house with the IPad!!!!!  Miles had put it in the glove compartment.  Guess he hadn't looked there.
1.)  Stephanie certainly knows her child.
2.)  Stephanie certainly knows her dad!!!!!  He coughed up the $100.

The Johnsons flew in that night so we were all there Saturday morning for the stake baptism.  Another boy in Mile's primary class was baptized.  As we waited in the Relief Society room for him to change, Charlie, Dennis, and Matt layed their hands on Mile's head while Matt gave Miles a father's blessing.  There are no words to describe the feeling in the room.  Matt's words were tender towards his little boy who Heavenly Father loves so much.  There was a wonderful lightness you could feel.  I knew that if I opened my eyes Mom and Dad, Charlie's parents, and another older couple would be standing there by Miles. Like I said, there are no words....

After, we went to a cute restaurant downtown Castle Rock for a heavenly outdoor lunch.
The afternoon was spent finishing up what Charlie could of the shower, pulling weeds, water balloons, and fun. Can't believe that Zoe Beth sometimes.  She was telling us about a friend that asked her to do something, "but I declined." DECLINED?  What 10 year old says that?
Such a great backyard!!  Matt and Dennis barbecued steaks for dinner.  We said our goodbys rather late and headed back to our hotel.  We flew out of Denver the next day after stopping for lunch at the Elway restaurant in the airport.  Amazing food with the prices you would expect from a five star restaurant. You get what you pay for. (Wow, airports sure aren't what they use to be!)
The minute we got home, Charlie was on the phone and visiting getting ready for an early morning call on Monday for Girl's Camp!!  See you in 4 days, Dear!
