Everything they say about the traffic in Rome is true. Everything you've seen in movies is reality. Andy aka Drew was our guide and taxi while there. He is as crazy and wild as everyone else. I guess you have to be or you don't get anywhere. We go through a tunnel (see picture) where there are 4 lanes painted on the street. There were 6 lanes of cars and sometimes 7! Nobody obeys the lines on the street. I don't even know why they bother painting them.
There are stops signs but nobody stops. They will stop at red lights. (But never in their lanes. Lanes?? What's a lane?) As soon as the light turns green somebody honks and we all dart out 5 lanes across in 2 lanes of painted road.
Oh yeah...add to that mix the scooters and motorcycles. (Of which there are a plethora.) They don't take their turns anywhere. They buzz right past you and go to the head of the line at red lights. They are the first to go. They weave in between cars everywhere. They have no boudaries, but they all wear their helmets and their mothers are proud.

Here is a picture of our taxi just outside the Vatican walls.

Here is a picture of Mr. Drew!
