Monday, November 26, 2007 Streets!!
So today I thought I would get my Pennsylvania driver's license. I went online and got the address of the nearest DMV. After getting lost....again...and asking directions...again...(And I am even using a GPS!) I found a motor vehicle place. (Not the one I was looking for, but it will do.) I had in tow my social security card, birth certificate, my mortgage and a utility bill to prove that I live here and my current license. They were open!! BUT...they only take the pictures. The place I need to go is across the hall and they aren't open on Monday. Did you know that after I get the paper work done in one place, when it is open, and get my picture taken in the other place, I still have to go to a third place in another township to get the vehicle licensed. And speaking of townships....they are allowed to change the name of a street as it goes into their township. That means that you can be on the same road and it becomes different names as you drive. (Did anyone tell the GPS lady that?) Old Baltimore Pike becomes Ellsworth and then back to Old Baltimore Pike. There is an Old Baltimore Pike, a Baltimore Pike, a West Baltimore Pike which is actually East of East Baltimore Pike which is West. The only thing that actually runs east and west is Highway 1 North and Highway 1 South. I think the GPS lady is even confused. You can't turn left about everywhere but you CAN go straight up the highway 2 miles and make a legal U-turn, double back and turn right. I got so lost. It wasn't all bad. I ran into a Kohl's and a mall I hadn't found yet. I'm going to stay home tomorrow and paint. I'll venture to the DMV again on Wednesday. (I have 60 days to get my license. It just might take me that long.) Until the next adventure. Nancy
Thursday, November 29, 2007 Mission Accomplished
I was successful today getting my Pennsylvania license. WooHoo! I appeared in person, surrendered my Utah license, showed them my social security card and birth certificate (with the RAISED seal), showed proof of residency with a signed mortgage and the contract we made with the propane company, showed change of address letter from the post office, gave 2 pints of blood and disclosed the last 2 boyfriends I dumped. Now all that is left is to get Charlie over there to get his and then transfer the Utah title of the truck to Pennsylvania. There is also the matter of truck inspection. I'm afraid to ask where I go for that.
On the way home from my little adventure I ran into some of our neighbors. (See picture)
Till next time. Nancy
Sunday, December 2, 2007 Sunday in the Branch
Hello Stansbury!
Our Branch now has our records so we get to talk in church next week. woohoo. I am a-liken' this spread out branch. Church is so far away that all business and meetings are started and concluded between 9:00 and 2:00. Church goes from 9:30-12:30. Everything else is taken care of before or after so no one has to come back for meetings or interviews. (Choir, presidency meetings, tithing settlement, etc.) This is where the block schedule makes sense. The best form of communication is e-mails. I'm hoping this includes visiting teaching. No callings yet but I am playing for relief society for now and Charlie just keeps moving so no one will catch him.
Check out the 2 pictures I took on the way home from church today. As always, still here, Nancy
Sunday, December 9, 2007 Another branch meeting for the record books
Man, this is going to take some getting used to. We just got home from church and it's 3:00!! We left this morning at 9:00. After the 3 hour block they had a cookies and milk social in the multi-purpose room. We still had tithing settlement, our meeting with the branch president to go and then choir practice. It's a pretty big choir too. Everyone who is waiting for a family member to be done with choir pracice just gets bored so joins the choir. I drove home while Chuck grabbed some ZZZZZs. High Councilman you know. We have been asked to teach the temple preparation class. We start next week.
And so begins another week of more rain. I understand why nobody has a sprinkling system. (And every block has a drainage field. I thought it was wasted space but now I know.) Our son, Andy, is back from his 2 weeks to the middle east so we are meeting him at the DC temple Friday to do a session. I can't wait to see him and the temple lights!
