Half-way there.

The day we moved to Pennsylvania my husband has been on a mission to upgrade this hospital.  He went to work on getting an addition built and the old part of the hospital updated. Ground was broken for the addition a year ago June. (See earlier blog.)  The addition is done!!  The ribbon cutting was Saturday.  Thursday night, the 3rd, was the beginning of the celebration.  A large tent was set up in the parking lot to be party central.

Jennersville Hospital had been built back in 1959.  A major upgrade was definitely needed.
The Thursday night banquet was for the medical staff.  Chuck was simply glowing....literally.  He  brought home a couple of the construction vests and asked me to fashion a tuxedo vest from them.
The reflective tape on the vests did just as intended whenever a flash went off.
Friday night was a banquet for the hospital employees.  It was also the first time they had been able to tour the addition.  We might have a problem now.  Only half of the nurses get to work in the addition.
New Lobby and waiting room.
New nurses station.
All rooms are private.  This is a major change from the old style hospitals where there were 2 to 4 patients to a room.  Did I mention the hospital was in need of a major upgrade?
Saturday morning was the ribbon cutting after remarks from the CEO, the Chief of staff, the Chamber of Commerce president, the state senator, and the other 2 politicians that were campaigning for Tuesday's election.  Oh...and then the community choir from New London (standing behind Chuck) sang 2 rousing, patriotic songs.
Chuck had asked a girl scout to do the ribbon cutting.  The girl scouts were volunteering that day in the party tent with face painting, cotton candy, hamburgers and hot dogs, etc.  This girl scout was a daughter of one of the employees.  Chuck should have been campaigning for office.  He had all the right moves.
Herr's potato chip factory sent their mascot along with lots of free chips.  Brilliant.
Dance groups from the area were scheduled to perform throughout the day.  Yes, this was a calculated move to get all the parents out to tour the hospital.  It worked.
The Zumba demonstration was a hit.  I loved it!  I go to my second class tonight.

So the title of the blog is 'Half-way there.'  Yep.  The addition was the first half of the construction.  They are in the process of redirecting electrical, plumbing, etc. on the first half of the old hospital.  The next 6 months will be gutting that half and upgrading to private rooms.  The following 6 months will be upgrading and reconstructing the administrative offices, etc.  Check back next year for completion report.

Wow! That is awesome! It looks beautiful. That hubby of yours is quite the leader. That must be why is he CEO. But my favorite part of the post had to be his glowing pictures. That was a very creative idea and the vest turned out awesome.
