Chritmas in Nauvoo

We drove into Nauvoo Christmas Eve.  First stop was the Visitor's Center.  They had just moved the Sunstone (from the original Nauvoo Temple) inside.  They will build a case around it before the summer season.

That night we went to the Nauvoo Revue in the Cultural Hall of old Nauvoo.  About 50 of the missionary couples tell the story of Nauvoo through song and dance.  So wonderful!

Some said it was a little out of their comfort zone, but they did fantabulous.  I loved it.

Christmas Day was spent in our hotel Skyping Andy in Algeria, the Johnsons in Virginia, and Brent's family in Utah.  We had to drive into Burlington, Iowa to get lunch because Nauvoo was totally closed Christmas Day.  We stayed in Burlington and saw "Les Miserables."
Nauvoo opened back up on the 26th and we started being tourists.  It was too cold to ride in the wagon, so we drove in a nice warm car from place to place.  There were all of about 20 other people in the whole place.

I am standing on the banks of the Mississippi River where the Saints crossed.  It was so bitter cold!  Notice the ice chunks in the river.

It was so much fun to go in each shop and house and talk with the missionaries.  We walked in John Taylor's home and Charlie saw a nurse that had worked with him in Price at Castleview Hospital!

Behind me is the Riser boot shop, John Taylor's home and the Print shop.

Entrance to the Nauvoo Temple.

This is where we stayed.  We had an outside room.  The stairs behind me led to our room.

Scovil Bakery.  Matt's GGG grandpa owned this.  (Don't know how many G's, but a lot.)
To be continued.
