Forty Years!

Forty years together deserved something a little extra this year, so we borrowed the Hubert condo in Oceanside, CA and headed south. It was instant heaven when we arrived. The balcony overlooks the pier and the beach. I can't wait to get my toes in that sand!
First day we headed down to the North Harbor. We were just a lovin' the warm weather and the tropical plants everywhere. We walked home on the beach down by the water. Heaven.
Who wears shoes on the beach?! My guy...that's who.
The condo has a rooftop deck that is fantabulous. Lounge chairs, fire pit, barbecue stations...you get the picture. This is the view looking north up Pacific St.
And the view looking southwest.

Had lunch with Chelsea at the famous 101 Cafe on the 101.  When the Farnsworth's lived in San Diego, this is the highway we took up to Disneyland in the 50's!

Walking the pier with Chelsea and Munkie. The signs all said "No pets allowed" but we sure saw a lot of dogs, some on leashes and some not.

We watched the sun go down up on the balcony of the condo. Breathtaking!
Happy Anniversary to the love of my eternity.
Next day we headed down the 101 in a hunt for pots for our backyard. It did not disappoint and the prices were crazy good. Came home with 3 large ones for our backyard.  Chelsea and Munkie had to leave. Sad.
Most of the locals were riding their bikes, walking their dogs, or surfing. We walked the pier and then put this together. We are old people.
We found a church and hit up the 11:00 vacationer's Sacrament meeting.  It was High Council Sunday. There was a youth speaker, a companion speaker, the rest hymn, and then the high councilman. His name was Eric Johnson. Just so happened I had dated this guy 42 year earlier at BYU. He was a dancer in Young Ambassadors. He was on the Eastern States and South America tours. He looked old. Oh yea....we are all old now. So sad, his wife Claire, had just passed away three weeks earlier.
We were so close to Legoland that we had to check it out. These huge lego people are out front. Look closely. I am standing behind the people in the orange and green shirts with my arm up in the orange face. I don't think we will come back tomorrow. Tickets are $100 a pop.
On Monday we decided to actually do something. We found the San Luis Rey mission that had been built in 1798. I am kneeling by a gargoyle in the Lavenderia where they bathed. The water flowed out of its mouth. Looks a lot like the South American stuff.
Staircase (original built in 1798 or there abouts) that led from the Lavenderia up to the Mission.
Mission San Luis Rey
This statue of a member of the Mormon Battalion was in their museum! Seems that the Mormon Battalion stopped on their way to San Diego and then on their way back, stopped again and stayed for awhile to help clean up the mission and get it ready to house the army that would come later. Always serving!!
One of the original arches from 1798 in front of the pepper tree that was planted back then too!! No lie!! Over 200 years old!! See...I am not all that old after all.
There was a funeral going on when we arrived so we had to wait until it was done to see the chapel.  Pretty cool and worth the wait.  I think we will try to come back again in ten years for our 50th anniversary.
