Why do I feel I am home?

Charlie and I drove to Andy's house in Valley Center, CA on Thursday, the 26th of June.  The house is wonderfully layed out but needs a gut job inside to update it.  While there:
Put up 6 foot fence (I was support and water boy), pulled weeds, relaxed, went to the rodeo for Valley Center Days and met Ed and Heidi and fam (fellow Navy guy), relaxed, drove to Chula Vista to see house and elementary school from 1957-1960, relaxed, ate out, relaxed, watched Andy grill us some filets, relaxed...  You get the picture.  Speaking of...

Orange tree

On the way home on Tuesday we stopped for lunch at Peggy Sue's diner in Yermo and Elvis played for the lunch crowd.
So, why do I feel like I am home?  I lived in this part of the world from age 4 to 7.  I started school here and all my real memories of life started here.  I remember going to the beach, the zoo, on base to see my Dad, all the ships, Wesley and Abbie (friends), our neighborhood by the golf course, the beautiful trees that were flowering purple, the purple vines that were on all the fences and houses, our neighbor (Peggy) who let us play on her swingset, and on and on and on.  I loved having snail races on the sidewalk in the morning and squishing them with the bike after.

I saw the ships, my school, my house, snails, purple trees, vines on the fence at the school (The vines were actually covering the kindergarten gate that was locked tight.  All people must enter into the double gated courtyard now with multiple locks.  Sad.  Brad and I both walked through that gate so many times.) So in that case, I had come home.  Next visit will include a visit to the base and the zoo.
And because I remember it....Here is our fight song for Castle Park Elementary.
"There is a castle, upon a hill.  And every Jackie and every Jill are proud to claim the flag of red and and white and we will cheer with all our might.
Castle Park the school we love the best. Castle Park the finest in the west. We gave our all to win at every game and we will lead you on to fame. Rah!"
