Cruisin' with my bestie!

First day of a dream. Cruisin' for 9 days with my best friend. We boarded the Explorer of the Seas with Royal Carribean in Bayonne, New Jersey on May 10th. Great view of Manhattan in the distance. We were newbies so were just astonished at everything!! Heading out to sea we passed under a bridge. So cool. Waved good-by to the Statue of Liberty and everything.
Everyone else on the ship was sunning up on decks 11 and 12. We had the whole front of the ship to ourselves and enjoyed our little Titanic moment. I am sure the folks on the bridge see this little scenario a kabillion times a cruise.
First stop was Bermuda. This is kinda fun! We toured the old prison, built by the inmates, owned by England. Once the slaves were freed, England needed cheap labor so sailed their prisoners to Bermuda to work. Google it. The big circle thing says that if you kiss under it, you will live a long and happy life together. We are well on our way.
We were at sea on Sunday, Mother's Day. We found a quiet, out of the way place on deck 4 and settled in with our Ipads. Charlie read the Sunday School lesson and scriptures. I finally caught up on the conference talks from October 2011. That night was the first of three formal dining dinners. A photographer was there to capture the moment. He cost $19.95. We had a friend take this picture.
Next stop, St. Maarten. I found out why it is spelled St. Maarten and St. Martin. This island is settled by two countries. The Dutch side spells their half St. Maarten. The French, St. Martin. We stayed on the Dutch side. Nothing much to do but swim and shop. Oh darn. We walked down a little street to find a funeral going on in this church. It is 160 years old. The little lady being eulogized was 91. (We asked one of the shop owners nearby.) We took a ferry boat to downtown where Charlie found an apple store! His ipad wasn't allowing him to watch the movies he had downloaded at home. This guy reset his ipad so Charlie bought a protective cover and some speakers from him. Stay tuned for more....

So jealous, but I guess I'll have earned it too in 20 more years. : )
