More Bestie time
Back in the US. San Juan, Peurto Rico. We toured a military fort that was used from the 1500's up to World War II. Awesome. Found the statue of Christopher Columbus....yes, that guy. Bought a Christmas ornament of the nativity in stained glass made by the little lady who is with me in the picture. Loved the narrow streets and Spanish style balconies.
I had obviously been here before. I found my name scratched on the wall of the fort.
Next stop..Labadee, Haiti.
Labadee is an "island" owned by Royal Carribean. It's actually a peninsula attached to Haiti but separated by barbed wire so it might as well be an island. They allow the Haitians to ferry over in Royal Carribean issued shirts to sell their souvenirs. They are pushy and annoying. (And too many of them all selling the same stuff.) Once you get past them....the ship had a barbecue planned on land in the many picnic areas between the beaches. Not much else to do but paraglide, zip-line, rent skidoos, swim, sun, and listen to the native music. (They would play one song and then disperse to sell their CD, move to another picnic area and repeat.) Being the really swingers that we are....after lunch we went back to the air-conditioning of the ship.
Next post - The boring cruise back to port.
