When Birthdays get sad.

Tomorrow is my sweety's birthday. No fanfare expected because we are going on a cruise next week. We spent a wad on clothes last night at the mall. Others, however, have recognized this event. The first birthday card he received was from his own hospital. All the employees receive a card and a free cafeteria lunch for their birthday. The second one was from the Director of the Senior Circle group at his hospital. Just a sweet reminder that he is one of them, the senior people with gray hair that play bingo and do senior zumba. The third card came from Southwest Rapid Rewards. They want him to keep up the traveling and give them lots of money. The fourth was from his insurance agent. This always comes with the reminder to let him know when things 'change' so he'll know what to do. He also sends a 'special report' of what happened the year you were born.
A new car was $1650.00; a new home was $14,300.00; a gallon of gas was 20 cents; a loaf of bread was 14 cents. Is this supposed to make you happy? The fifth one came from the social security people letting him know he can now collect social security if he wants. All was not lost. His administrative team at the hospital all threw in and bought him an ipod nano. It's so tiny and fits in his pocket. Now I can't tell if he is listening to me or not. Happy Birthday, Dear.

That was kind of depressing. I understand your title! Happy Birthday to Uncle Charlie, anyway! :)
